Ada Dolores Albrecht and Jorge Ángel Livraga Rizzi, co-founders of New Acropolis

In 1957 a couple made up of the Nazi-sympathizer Angel Livraga and his wife Ada Albrecht decided to create the New Acropolis Foundation, which over time would become an international sect. The group's ideology is a mix of esoteric elements, theosophy, orientalism, alchemy, astrology and a little Greek philosophy (especially Plato). New Acropolis claims to be above all Philosophies, Religions, Politics and Sciences and seeks only to fulfill the myth of the superman (the same as Adolf Hitler's?). But let's see how one of its texts defines it. “This structure (New Acropolis) feeds on men and transfuses the fit into its great body, into its great Soul , to turn them to some extent into supermen. The inept must be left behind. Such is the painful Law. They will be picked up by some hyena-structure that feeds on carrion”. The sect began to expand in the sixties and in the seventies decided to open branches in other Latin American countries (Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Brazil and Bolivia) and move important members to Europe (Spain and France). Today it is established in more than thirty countries and has its central headquarters in Brussels, although its leader resides in Spain. New Acropolis recruits its future members through lectures on topics of history, philosophy, pyramid archaeology or esotericism. These talks, generally free, are announced by posters that members paste all over the city. In a sect book, entitled “Leader's Manual”, one can read the following text: “The propaganda must not scare or produce an excessive impact, at risk of being considered suspicious and rejected. An apparently innocent invitation to attend courses and lectures is more profitable than the violent display of mysterious symbols or enigmatic sayings…propaganda must offer a welcoming image of personal convenience, without showing that it calls to change your life and burden you with enormous sacrifices and efforts. Once inside they understand us better and consider these sacrifices as honors, but before, they frighten people”. In 1985, journalist Pepe Rodríguez published an article about this sect, in which he denounced the large amount of weaponry that existed in various New Acropolis centers and the possible fear that young people were being trained in the use of weapons. The sect began to threaten him and Rodríguez decided to present the evidence to the Justice system. The judge ordered the headquarters to be raided and found several weapons. In June 1988, the Third Section of the Provincial Court of Madrid initiated a trial against Angel Livraga for illegal possession of weapons. The “Ave Emperador” as he likes to call himself among his disciples, ended up in the dock of the accused. But let's look a little more at the “Leader's Manual”, a book for internal circulation, but which was used in the trial held in Spain. On p. 46 Livraga writes: “Defining what New Acropolis is is easy outwardly, for we will adapt its appearance to the needs of the place…New Acropolis is, externally, a cultural and humanistic organization, and its heart consists of a Philosophical Conception in the classical manner, but this heart has another Hidden heart, which are the Mysteries; in the depths it is a school of Mysteries…”

HASTINAPURA

Around 1981, at a world meeting of New Acropolis held in Rome, a harsh confrontation occurred between Angel Livraga and Ada Albrecht that led to the group’s split. According to witnesses, Livraga could not tolerate Ada's internal growth, and she did not believe much in her husband's paramilitary delusions. A group mainly of Argentines and Latin Americans followed Ada Albrecht's steps and founded the World Association of Hastinapura. The image this association presents is lighter than New Acropolis; courses in philosophy, yoga, meditation and self-realization psychology are offered. In a pamphlet one can read: “Hastinapura is approaching the heart. Hastinapura is approaching the heart. Hastinapura offers you to transform and be a channel , be a port where those who need the fruits that result from our action can be supplied and nourished. We know of places that offer the mysteries and the lights that most dazzle our mind. Hastinapura wants clean ground, it wants to build with the purest materials; it offers us a path of action, it calls our attention to know ourselves as active participants, creators of our own world of wonders…” The sector most seduced by this group is found among women aged 30 to 50. Several husbands have visited FAPES to tell us the drama of seeing how they lost their wives. In a Hastinapura text, addressed to women who are pressured by family obligations, one can read the following: “…It is true, we have family obligations. But do family obligations cut us off, limit us, hinder the path to our interior, to God? If we are sincere, our answer will be: no, a family that loves us really cannot prevent us from marching toward happiness. Giving love means allowing and helping the growth of loved ones. Therefore our family participation is necessary and convenient until fulfilling this mandate and no further. Likewise, the love of our relatives must help our growth, otherwise we would have to ask ourselves what our relationship covers beyond its mask of love…Did you think that we possess a home, family, children only for a time?
